Pushed Beyond
May 17th, 2012 | Filed Under: Author, Mitch Kuhn, Poetry | 6 CommentsA poem about being pressed beyond our limits and delivered by God.
By Mitch Kuhn
Standing at the flood gates
Water comes crashing down
Rising so quickly
I think I will drown
We’re pushed to to the end of ourselves
So much farther that we think we could go
The first time I see the giants in the land
I fear I’ll be crushed under their mighty hand
Just when death seems certain
Over and over again I am given victory
Every time I am given to overcome
My expectation of deliverance grows stronger
Fear not, your strength will grow
Yet it will not be yours, but Christ within you
Now I see the giants and know there is a way
I will be delivered in time, not tempted beyond what I can bear
For his elect, the Lord always makes a way
He delights in this precious faith he gives us
To look upon the great red sea
and know there is a way
My burden seems too heavy at times
But then I see provision all around
If he afflicts me
Comfort will appear that I may press on
Deliverance comes
But not without the thorns
Lest we forget we are strangers in this land
Dwelling in tents until that great day
Take heart my friends
We will overcome in this life
Be sober my friends
The road is narrow and hard, few they are that find
Inspired by:
Psa 107:26 They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: their soul is melted because of trouble.
Psa 107:27 They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wits’ end.
Psa 107:28 Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses.
Psa 107:29 He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still.
Psa 107:30 Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven.
1Co 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
